A Few Words from the CEC Board
Canadian Electroacoustic Community
A sound network.
Dear CEC members,
Welcome to this month’s eFlash! We have a few things to highlight leading up to the AGM this year.
Four New Honorary Members. The CEC is extremely pleased to welcome Yves Daoust, Robert Normandeau, Hélène Prévost and Hildegard Westerkamp as the CEC’s newest honorary members. Their contributions to the growth of the community of electroacoustic practitioners and activities across Canada are renowned, indeed internationally, and we should all be proud to be able to count them amongst the CEC’s Honorary members. Thank you to Mimi Allard, Gabrielle Caux, Colin Frank, Hideko Kawamoto, Michael Lukaszuk, Antoine Lussier and Caroline Traube, the Focus Group members that assessed the nominations and made recommendations to the CEC Board.
JTTP 2024 — Philippe Macnab-Séguin in Residency at AdK Berlin. Thematic award recipient Philippe Macnab-Seguin (Yves Gigon Award for the most outrageous electroacoustic work) has been invited by the Akademie der Künste Berlin to a two-week residency in August 2025. We are excited to have the AdK as a JTTP Residency Partner again for the 25th edition of JTTP, and look forward to hearing the results of Philippe’s time there.
CEC Board — Nominations for 2025–27. You are invited!! Each year the CEC invites applications for new board members. Use this online form and nominate yourself or someone you would like to see involved. This is a chance to join in and contribute to and support the broader community, as well as help us shape the future of the CEC. The deadline for nominations is 25 May 2025.

JTTP 2025 — Call for Works. The deadline is the 31st of May (annual); that’s in just over a month. This internationally renowned model offers unique opportunities for young and emerging electroacoustic artists from or living in Canada, including prizes and awards, concert performance and more. We invite you to submit your new and recent electroacoustic work and be part of the 26th edition of the project coordinated by the CEC!
Communications. The CEC’s relevance goes far beyond Canada’s borders and its membership includes a large population of international members. I am mostly from Alabama in the Deep South of the US, and the CEC was a major force in helping me establish a foothold outside of the States over 20 years ago. The long-standing mailing list <cec-conference> was — and still is — a vital networking tool for composers. As Etienne mentioned in the last eFlash!, we recently added a Discord server to our communications and outreach toolkit and I encourage you to join in there.
