The CEC’s 2023 AGM was held in the “tech hub” at Concordia University and webcast via Zoom, hosted by CEC member Mark Corwin. Present (in-person or online) were:

  • Continuing, outgoing and incoming CEC Board members James Andean (JA, Leicester, UK), Myriam Boucher (MB, Montréal), Carey Dodge (CD), Darsha Hewitt (DH, Berlin, Germany), Terri Hron (TH, Montréal), Étienne Mason (EM, Montréal), Rick Nance (RN, Leicester UK) and Pauline Patie (PP, Montréal) and Shawn Pinchbeck (SP, Viljandi, Estonia), all online.
  • CEC Administrators Yves Gigon (YG, hub) and jef chippewa (JC, Berlin, Germany) online.
  • CEC Members Mark Corwin (MC) in the hub, as well as Kristi Allik (KA), Kevin Austin (KevA, Montréal), Michael Palumbo (MP) and Stéphane Roy (SR, Montréal) online.
  • JTTP 2023 prizewinners and thematic award recipients Mimi Allard (MA), Jules Bastin-Fontaine (JBF), José-Gabriel Bazán-Gauthier (JGBG), Julie Delisle (JD), Émile Gingras (EG) and Kristian North (KN), all in the hub.
  • Live performer Jean-François Laporte (JFL) in the hub.

The meeting began at 15:08 EDT on Thursday, 14 September 2023 (ca. 18 minutes after the start of Jean-François Laporte’s performance). 1[1. Laporte’s performance begins at 0:00 in the video documentation of the AGM.] Outgoing CEC President Myriam Boucher chaired the meeting; incoming CEC Secretary Pauline Patie acted as Minutes-Taker.

Performance

Starting in 2022, the CEC’s Annual General Meetings are “enhanced” with an artistic activity such as a performance or workshop that takes place in parallel to the proceedings. A networked live coding performance took place in parallel to the CEC’s 2022 AGM.

MB welcomed all those in attendance for the 2023 AGM (in-person and online), and presented Jean-François Laporte, who performed on one of his newest instrument designs for this year’s Enhanced AGM. 2[2. Since 2022, the CEC’s Annual General Meetings are “enhanced” with an artistic activity such as a performance or workshop that takes place in parallel to the proceedings.] His instruments have been featured in winning works in JTTP 2022 (Bermudez) and JTTP 2023 (Delisle).

MB presented the Agenda for approval.

CD moved to accept the Agenda as is; JA seconded. The Agenda of the CEC’s 2023 AGM was adopted by general consent.

  1. [20:02] Minutes of the Previous AGM / Adoption du procès-verbal de la dernière AGA

The minutes of the 2022 AGM were read by all in attendance.

CD moved to accept the minutes of the 2022 AGM; JA seconded. The minutes of the CEC’s 2022 AGM were adopted by general consent.

  1. [21:50] Business Arising from the Minutes of the Previous AGM / Sujets touchant le procès-verbal de la dernière AGA

There was no business arising from the minutes of the 2022 AGM.

  1. [23:05] Board of Directors for 2023–24 / Conseil d’administration pour 2023–2024

President (outgoing) Myriam Boucher presented the proposed makeup of the CEC Board of Directors for the 2023–24 fiscal year, as per the annual Board nominations procedure that took place in spring 2023, for approval by the membership (two-year Board terms are indicated in parentheses):

YG moved to accept the Board as presented; KA seconded. The CEC’s Board of Directors was adopted by general consent.

JC thanks the outgoing board members for their service and contributions over the years, with whom it has been a pleasure to work, and welcomes the newest board members.

  1. [26:20] President’s Report / Rapport de la présidente

MB presented her President’s Report 3[3. Read the text here, or watch the report in the video documentation of the AGM.], in which she gave updates on the CEC’s three principal ongoing and recurring annual activities: Jeu de temps / Times Play (JTTP), Sonus and eContact!, as well as the CEC’s 2020–2024 Strategic Plan. She announced the JTTP 2023 winners and thematic award recipients, many of whom were present at the AGM and were greeted by congratulatory rounds of applause.

CD moved to accept the President’s Report as presented; SP seconded. The President’s Report was adopted by general consent.

SP presented his Treasurer’s Report 4[4. Read the text here, or watch the report in the video documentation of the AGM.], in which he provided information about the CEC’s financial situation and about grant applications made to the SOCAN Foundation and Canada Council for the Arts, as well as upcoming grant applications to be made by the association.

PP moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report as presented; RN seconded. The Treasurer’s Report was adopted by general consent.

There were no other reports.

JC presented a pre-release announcement of Totem Contemporain’s second edition of the Totem Electroacoustic Competition.

The Chair of the 2023 AGM suggested to adjourn; MB moved to adjourn the meeting; PP seconded.

MB thanks Concordia University for hosting the AGM and for providing the room and tech support.

YG thanks MC for his support in running the tech for the AGM.

The CEC’s 2023 AGM was consensually adjourned at 15:43 on Thursday, 14 September 2023. Jean-François Laporte’s performance continued for another 10 minutes.
