A Few Words From the CEC’s Treasurer

Hi everyone, I hope that despite lockdowns and restrictions that you and yours are doing fine and you are finding time to stay creative! On behalf of the Board of the CEC, I would like to update you on the CEC’s recent activities.

JTTP 2020 — Jeu de temps / Times Play. The CEC continues to promote the work of the winning young and/or emerging electroacoustic artists from the 21st edition of JTTP as announced at the 2020 AGM in the President’s Report by Myriam Boucher:

  1. Mélanie Frisoli — Le chant de la machine (2020 / 12:48)
  4. Simon Chioini — Maisons couleurs (2016 / 19:27)
  5. Jeremie Jones — Wóz no. 10 (2017 / 6:01)

Big thanks should go out to the international jury and the many donors and partners who contributed the fantastic prize packages and other support. This year’s special presentation of the winning works was by Project Partner DEGEM (the German association for electroacoustics) on October 4 as the opening concert for the BRRRZK! Festival in Bremen. It consisted of limited seating in a theatre with a perfect cinéma pour l’oreille setting. There was also a streamed concert of the works presented at the MANTIS Festival on October 30.

Finances. For a detailed overview of the CEC’s financial situation in the 2019–20 fiscal year, please see my Treasurer’s Report from the 2020 AGM, published in the September 2020 edition of eFlash! Despite the ever-increasing costs of operations in recent years, some adjustments and careful financial planning made it possible to finish the year in a balanced position despite the CEC’s level of core funding remaining unchanged this year. Thank you to our administrators for their work on this front!

Funding. The significant funding news is that the SOCAN Foundation is moving the organizations it supports to multi-year funding. Now, the CEC has SOCAN Foundation funding for the period of 2021–23. Additionally, they have increased funding to the CEC by $3000 per year over that period. This assists in our efforts to secure a stable, long-term funding base for the CEC. A huge thanks to the SOCAN Foundation!

Membership Dues. I would like to make a friendly reminder to pay your membership dues if you have not done so yet for the 2020–21 year. They are an important part of our budget and help the CEC realize several yearly projects. If you need to delay payment in these tricky times, the CEC understands, given the impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the livelihood of so many artists and others. Contact the CEC administrator jef chippewa for any questions on your membership standing.
