A Few Words from the Secretary of the CEC

eContact! — Latest Issue and Call for Submissions. I invite you all to check out the most recent issue 20.3, “Shortwave Radio, CD Players, the Inner Ear and Waltzing Goldfish: Medium-specific practices in sound,” featuring articles on the theme of medium specificity from the perspective of technological media (Nicolas Collins, Stephanie Castonguay), the environment and the human as media (Lillian Beidler, Brian Connolly) and Radio (Kathy Kennedy, Amanda Dawn Christie and Lukas Pearse), as well as a lead article by Jan Thoben and an interview with Charlemagne Palestine by Bob Gluck.

There is also still time to submit for the upcoming issue on Live Coding! Please contact Coordinating Editor jef chippewa if you wish to submit an article or artist gallery for that issue. The submission deadline is mid-April.

JTTP 2020 — Call for Submissions. You have until May 1 to submit work for the 21st edition of JTTP, coordinated by the CEC since 2000. We are pleased to partner with DEGEM (Germany’s national association for electroacoustics) for the annual Special Event, featuring the winning works from JTTP 2020 in early October in Bremen. Consult the call for submissions for more details.

CEC Board Nominations. The CEC is accepting nominations to its Board of Directors until 20 April 2020. This is an opportunity to take a more active part in Canada’s national association for electroacoustic and related practices! The Self-Nomination Form is available here.

Funding. The importance of the SOCAN Foundation’s contributions to the CEC’s functioning since 2005 cannot be understated, and we are very pleased to share news that support for 2020 has been granted. Starting next year the CEC moves onto their new three-year model, which will mean a more stable funding base.

SONUS — Upgrade Complete. We are pleased to announce that the upgrade to Sonus supported by a Sector Innovation and Development grant (Canada Council for the Arts) is nearly complete. There is some remaining work related to promotion and maintenance.

If you have visited Sonus lately, you will have noticed the new “Spotlight” element on the main page. We are pleased to feature Barry Truax — the CEC’s newest Honorary member — in the first post. Celebrating 50 years of activities as an electroacoustic composer, Barry has just added as many works to Sonus.
