A Few Words From the CEC’s Treasurer

The Board of the CEC sends regards out to our friends and colleagues in the electroacoustic community across Canada and around the world. As Treasurer, it is my pleasure to bring the membership up to date on some housekeeping things around here, to usher in our new financial year and to give news of our upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

JTTP — Jeu de temps / Times Play. The annual JTTP project supports recent work by young and emerging composers, and sound artists from or living in Canada. This year is the 20th edition coordinated by the CEC! The jury and prize packages are being put together, and the jurying process will take place over the course of the month of July. I personally am always thrilled to hear the submitted works every year. Last year’s winners recently presented their works at the excellent Sound Junction Festival at the University of Sheffield in April 2019. We look forward to presenting our future prizewinners at a festival near you!

Canada Council Grant for Sonus. The CEC is very pleased that the Canada Council for the Arts has awarded a Sector Innovation grant for the “Next stage of upgrades to Sonus, the CEC’s online sound library.” Yves Gigon will be coordinating that project, assisted by jef chippewa, from June to December 2019. Interface improvements and metadata implementation are the main components of this project. There will be more information available as these important usability elements get implemented.

Membership Dues. You recently heard from jef, the CEC administrator, about membership payments being due; if you have not paid yet, please do. We count on the membership dues to contribute to our ability to maintain and develop a host of CEC-led projects, including JTTP, our online journal eContact! and Sonus. Contact jef chippewa if you have any questions about the status of your membership.

Upcoming Annual General Meeting. I would like to send an early invitation to attend the CEC’s Annual General Meeting of its members. We will soon have a location and date settled upon, sometime in late summer, that we will communicate to you shortly. CEC members and the general public alike are invited to attend and contribute to the discussions. CEC Permanent / Full Members whose accounts are in good standing, Patron and Honorary Members may vote on the business at hand. We hope to see you there!

Best wishes,
Shawn Pinchbeck
