Claude Schryer is a Franco-Ontarian sound and media artist and arts administrator who holds an MM in composition from McGill University and was actively in involved in the acoustic ecology and electroacoustic music communities in the 1980s and 90s. From 2000 to 2020 he held management positions at the Canada Council for the Arts (Inter-Arts Office) and acted as a strategic advisor. In 2020 he launched “conscient”, a podcast on art and the ecological crisis. In 2021 he was a co-founder of the Sectoral Climate Art Leadership for the Emergency (SCALE), and in 2023 he was chair of the Canadian Association for Sound Ecology (CASE) and sat on the executive committee of the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology (WFAE). In February 2024 he launched “a calm presence: short, practical essays for those frightened by the ecological crisis,” a Substack newsletter about his ongoing learning and unlearning journey about the ecological crisis.
