Works » By Title » J » … just a pulse (10:25 / 1984)

Claude Schryer

pour piano et bande

The harmonic, melodic and timbral elements of “… just a pulse” were created using a SCRIPT program generated by the Synclavier II digital instruments. The composition is based on a false harmonic series of gradually expanding intervals: C, C#, D#, F#, A#, E, C, its inversion and retrograde. Rhythmically the work calls upon the series 1-2-3-4 1-5-6-1 4-3-2-1 for its generative material.

“Hesitant, stepping back, thrusting forward, cutting through, riding the crest.</ br>Searching, balance, animated: thrusting forward, cutting through, articulating a wave.</ br>Reflection, compromise, action: stepping forward, cutting through, breaking the crest.</ br>A vision, a voice, a cycle… just a pulse.”
