“Overture, 1504” is the prologue to an opera-in-progress by Icelandic writer and director Halldor E Laxness and composer Claude Shryer. The work was first presented in workshop form in November, 1985 at The Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta. The opera refers to the life and times of the marble sculpture David by Michelangelo. Source material includes renaissance themes, excerpts from tourist sounds in Florence, fire and computer generated sounds. “Overture, 1504” was realized at the Electronic Music Studio of the University of East Anglia and at the studio La Muse en Circuit in Paris (France).
