eFlash! — Novembre 2006
Chers membres de la CEC, sachez que votre organisation a été fort active durant l’été et en ce début d’automne.
L’édition 8.4 de eContact!, parue en septembre 2006, figure parmi les plus substancielles du journal de la CEC. jef chippewa et Yves Gigon ont travaillé d’arrache-pied pour améliorer tant la portée que l’apparence de eContact!. Le conseil d’administration et moi-même les en remercions chaleureusement. eContact! 8.4 illustre aussi les premières expérimentations de la CEC dans le domaine des WIKI : les pages « Electroacoustic Film Soundtracks », « Electroacoustic Bibliography », et « Electroacoustic Techniques » ont toutes été produites grâce à un effort collectif de la communauté EA. Ces pages étaient en fait notre banc d’essai du format WIKI : le test est tout à fait concluant, et de nombreux autres projets pourront maintenant voir le jour.
Jeu de temps / Times Play 2006 (JTTP 2006) était le sujet central de l'édition 9.1 de eContact!. Une fois de plus, toutes les soumissions du concours annuel de la CEC en soutien aux artistes jeunes et/ou émergents du Canada sont au programme : les notes biographiques de chaque compositeur sont disponibles, et bien sûr on peut entendre les œuvres via SONUS. Plusieurs émissions radiophoniques internationales (en provenance non seulement de tout le Canada, mais aussi du Chili, de France, de Suède et des É-U) ont ainsi diffusé — ou programmé pour très bientôt — les cinq pièces primées par le jury international.

C’est donc au nom de la CEC que je remercie tous les donateurs et les commanditaires qui ont permis à cette édition de JTTP de voir le jour.
Cache 2005 Cette série est devenue un outil indispensable pour les artistes jeunes et/ou émergents du Canada, et plusieurs membres du jury ont mentionné la qualité extraordinaire des œuvres présentées cette année. Malgré cela, et pour la première fois en sept ans, le Conseil des Arts du Canada n’a pas accordé de financement pour la production du CD, qu’il a fallu envoyer dans un emballage standard. J’ose croire que ça ne vous a pas empêché d'en apprécier l’écoute! Ce sont les membres fondateurs Jean-François Denis (de DIFFUSION i MéDIA) et Kevin Austin qu’il faut remercier, eux dont les généreuses donations ont permis la production d’une véritable pochette pour le CD, d’ailleurs postée ces jours cis aux membres de la CEC.
Conseil d’administration de la CEC / Assemblée générale annuelle Quelques changements sont intervenus dans la composition du conseil, au nom duquel j’aimerais remercier les membres sortants Pierre-Alexandre Tremblay, Nicolas Basque, et Mark Hannesson pour leur contribution à la communauté électroacoustique internationale. Voici la composition du nouveau conseil, tel qu’élu durant l’AGA du 23 septembre 2006 :

Shawn réside en Alberta, et a été président de la BEAMS (Boreal Electroacoustic Music Society, à Edmonton) pendant une douzaine d’années.

Dear CEC Members, the Summer and early Fall has been busy for the CEC.
eContact! 8.4 (released in September 2006) is among the most substantial editions yet of the CEC’s journal. jef chippewa and Yves Gigon have worked extensively to improve the design and range of content of eContact!, and on behalf of the Board, I wish to express our appreciation for their efforts. eContact! 8.4 also features the CEC’s first experiments with WIKIs; the pages on Electroacoustic Film Soundtracks, Electroacoustic Bibliography, and Electroacoustic Techniques were all generated through collaborative efforts of the EA community. These pages were a trial run of the WIKI format, and has proven successful enough that it should lead to numerous projects in the future.
Jeu de temps / Times Play 2006 (JTTP 2006) was the focus of eContact! 9.1. Once again all submissions to the CEC’s annual project for the support of Canadian-based young and emerging sound artists are featured in the year’s first issue of eContact!. Programme and biographical notes for all composers are available, and the works can be heard via SONUS. Several international radio programmes (across Canada and in Chile, France, Sweden and the USA) have broadcast (or have committed to broadcasting in the near future) the top five (prize-winning) works, as selected by the international jury.

Cache 2005 The Cache series has proven to be invaluable to the young and emerging generation of sound artists in Canada, and several members of this year’s jury commented on the extraordinary quality of this year’s submissions. For the first time in seven years, the Canada Council for the Arts elected not to fund the production of the CD. On behalf of the CEC, I wish to thank founding members Jean-François Denis (of DIFFUSION i MéDIA) and Kevin Austin, whose generous donations to the project have made the production of the new covers for the CD possible. These new covers are being sent out this month to CEC members, I hope you have enjoyed listening to the disc.
CEC Board / Annual General Meeting This year, there are a few changes to Board positions. On behalf of the Board, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to outgoing board members Pierre-Alexandre Tremblay, Nicolas Basque, and Mark Hannesson, for their invaluable contributions to the international electroacoustic community. The new board, which was voted in at the CEC’s AGM on September 23, 2006, is as follows:

I am pleased to welcome two new members to the CEC Board, David Ogborn and Shawn Pinchbeck. David is a composer and post-doctoral fellow in Music at the University of Toronto. Shawn is based in Alberta, and served as President of Edmonton’s Boreal Electroacoustic Music Society (BEAMS) for twelve years.
