Une bonne et heureuse nouvelle année en retard!
Les choses changeant rapidement, voici donc quelques développements intéressants à vous communiquer :
Nous sommes heureux d'annoncer que les CDs Cache 2003 sont maintenant prêts. Ce double CD est une édition spéciale du projet Jeu de temps / Times Play, réalisé en collaboration avec Sonic Arts Network. Vingt morceaux électroacoustiques sont inclus, dix de la section canadienne et dix de la section britannique, choisit par un jury international. La CEC remercie le Conseil des Arts du Canada pour son aide à ce projet.
Je suis également heureux d’annoncer que le Conseil des Arts du Canada a approuvé une subvention pour Cache 2004, qui est déjà en préparation. Ce CD sera envoyé aux membres qui ont payé leurs cotisations de cette année… faisant de cet instant le moment idéal pour envoyer votre cotisation, si ce n’est déjà fait.
Je suis très heureux d'annoncer également de nouveaux développements pour Sonus - une galerie sonore, “The Space Between”, organisée par Katharine Norman. La galerie propose des oeuvres sonores explorant les espaces, externes et internes, et chacune des pièces est accompagnée d'une réflexion personnelle sur l’oeuvre. La galerie est en partie basée sur le nouveau livre de Katharine, “Sounding Art: Eight Literary Excursions through Electronic Music”. Vous trouverez cette galerie dans la section des conservateurs du site de Sonus.ca. La galerie est la première d'une série, et il y en aura bientôt une deuxième, organisée par Phil Thomson, offrant un regard sur les courants “microsound”, “glitch” et “post-digital” canadiens. Je voudrait remercier personnellement Katharine et Phil de leur travail, et j'espère que les membres de la CEC apprécieront ces galeries autant que moi.
Le projet Jeu de temps/Times Play 2005 est maintenant ouvert. Jeu de temps est le projet annuel de la CEC pour mettre en valeur le travail des jeunes artistes sonores canadiens, et la date limite pour les soumissions est le 1 mai 2005. Si vous êtes un compositeur(trice) vous-même, j'espère que vous partiperez. Si vous êtes un professeur, ou connaissez de jeunes artistes, j'espère que vous les encouragerez à participer. J'espère surtout que de plus jeunes artistes, qui n’étudient pas encore l'électroacoustique à l'université et peuvent normalement ne pas être exposés à la publicité de la CEC, entendront parler de Jeu de temps/Times Play, par nos membres.
Le journal en ligne de la CEC, eContact.ca, a été récemment mis à jour avec deux nouveaux numéros. L'édition 7.2 parle du symposium Harvest Moon, qui a eu lieu en automne 2004 à Montréal. L'édition 7.4 porte sur la diffusion multicanale, et les deux éditions incluent des articles intéressants concernant l'espace et la spatialisation.

A belated Happy New Year! Things have been moving quickly here, and there are several exciting developments to report:
We are pleased to announce that the Cache 2003 CDs have now been pressed. This double CD features work from a special edition of the Jeu de temps project, conducted in collaboration with the UK's Sonic Arts Network. Twenty electroacoustic pieces are included in all, ten from the Canadian section and ten from the UK section, as selected by an international jury. The CEC is grateful to the Canada Council for the Arts for supporting this project. The CDs are being sent to CEC members as I write this, so you should receive your copy with this letter.
I am also happy to report that the Canada Council has approved funding for the Cache 2004 CDs, which is already in preparation. This CD will be sent to members who have paid dues for this year, so now would be a perfect time to renew your membership if you haven't already.
I am very pleased to announce new developments in Sonus - a sound gallery, 'The Space Between', curated by Katharine Norman. The gallery is concerned with sound works exploring spaces, both external and internal, and each of the pieces is accompanied by a considered, personal reflection about the work. The gallery is partly based on Katharine's new book, 'Sounding Art: Eight Literary Excursions through Electronic Music'. You can find this gallery in the 'Curators' section of the Sonus.ca site. The gallery is the first in an ongoing series, and there will soon be a second gallery on site, curated by Phil Thomson, offering a survey of recent Canadian microsound, glitch, and other post-digital soundings. I personally wish to thank Katharine and Phil for their work on the Sonus galleries, and I hope CEC members will enjoy them as much as I have.
The Jeu de temps/Times Play 2005 project is now open. Jeu de temps is the CEC's annual project to highlight the work of young or emerging Canadian sonic artists, and the deadline for submissions is May 1, 2005. If you are a young or emerging artist yourself, I hope you will send in some work. If you are a teacher, or know young or emerging sonic artists, I hope you will encourage them to participate as well. I especially hope that younger artists, who may not be studying electroacoustics at university and may not normally be exposed to CEC publicity, will hear about Jeu de temps/Times Play from our members.
The CEC's online journal, eContact.ca, has recently been updated with two new editions. Edition 7.2 includes reports and papers from the Harvest Moon Symposium, which was held in the fall of 2004 in Montreal. Edition 7.4 is on multi-channel diffusion, and both editions include interesting articles about space and spatialization.
There are other projects in the works, including a conference planned for September, and I will send another update soon.
