Darren Copeland is a Canadian sound artist who creates work for radio, performance and installations, with a focus on soundscape composition and multi-channel spatialization. His concert and radio works have been commissioned and presented worldwide (ZKM, Kunstradio, Engine 27, La Muse en Circuit) and are published on the internationally recognized empreintes DIGITALes label. He is the Artistic Director for New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA), the Toronto-based presenter of Deep Wireless, Sound Travels, and SOUNDplay. In this capacity he has developed a unique system for multi-channel performance spatialization which uses a gestural controller and two Audio Spotlight performers to move sound around a performance hall. Copeland has created site-specific sound installations for Kitchener City Hall (Open Ears Festival), Metro Toronto Convention Centre (Interactive05 during Toronto Art Fair) and, with Andreas Kahre, he co-created a permanent sound installation that uses four Audio Spotlights at the new Queen Elizabeth Pool in Edmonton.
