Movement 2 of «La Trilogie»
for voice and tape
penetrations VII [1972-III] is the chamber version of penetrations VI [1972-II], a commission of the 1972 Donaueschinger Musiktage. In this version, the composer uses an actress-singer and four channels of electronic sounds. The voice is modulated in real time by means of a synthesizer and other electronic techniques. The text has been written by the composer himself. The piece calls for a soloist to play a dual role: an adult that at the same time is a child, or reverts to childhood. Memories of all humanity are remembered in an instant. The composition is concerned with communication, with experiences that through centuries human beings have failed to assimilate. Earthmen keep on repeating mistakes in massive ways, having horrible consequences for millions of people and also affecting the generations to come. There is, however, hope in children: their innocent lack of knowledge may give the human race a fresh starting point… some day.
