arghanum IV [1987-III] was realized in the composer’s own studio. Some treatment — mostly on vocal sounds — were done by sampling and digital processing using a Synclavier II digital synthesizer, sample-to-disk program. This part of the operation — always on Ms Meg Sheppard’s voice — was done at the electronic music studios at McGill University, Montréal. The sampling methodology allowed the composer to take a new look at his own production from the last 20 years. The sampled pieces were various but the principal ones were to vocal pieces, “penetrations VII” and “ekphonesis V,” written both for Meg Sheppard. Further sampling was done on percussion pieces by Alcides Lanza, mostly “sensors I” and “sensors V.” All the sampled materials were enveloped, truncated, filtered and controlled via the DX5 keyboard in the composer’s studio.
