Born in Havana, Cuba, Sergio Barroso studied at the Havana National Conservatory, with post-graduate studies in composition at the Superior Academy of Music [AM] in Prague, and computer music at CCRMA, Stanford University. Barroso’s works have been performed at music centres and events in the Americas, Europe and Asia, including: the MET Lincoln Centre, Monte-Carlo Theatre, IRCAM, Prague Smetanova sí , Bratislava and São Paulo Philharmonic Halls, and London Elizabeth Hall; Warsaw Autumn Festivals; Budapest, Helsinki, Warsaw and San Francisco Opera theatres. His works have been broadcast by several national networks in Europe and throughout South and North America. He has received awards in Cuba, Canada, Europe, Latin America and the USA, including the Lynch-Staunton Award 2000, Cintas/Arts International (New York, 1999), Paris ISCM Rostrums of Composers (1994 and 1980), ISCM Rostrums of Electroacoustic Music (1992 and 1990) and ISCM Trimalca (1979). As a keyboardist has performed across Cuba, Canada, USA, and Europe.
