1st piece in the 6-work cycle, Sonic Architecture.

Sonic Architecture is spatial music, architecture made by sounds. The sonic material generates sonic space containing sonic elements surrounding the listener, height included. Hofman is interested in the idea of a limitless acoustic space engulfing the listener from every direction and relating them with an unpredictable ever-evolving architecture of sound.

Sounds become freely-moving elements in space, interacting with each other, being involved in a process of development as they generate Gestalt, define, re-define and modify space.

The materials of Tensile Elements are special kinds of elements, characterised by their sound quality, movement and types of interaction. Elements pass through the space, defining it, almost attaining material form but remain nonetheless bodiless. Concentrations and disintegrations occur… the elements seem to follow their own behavioural patterns. (Source: Harvest Moon 2006)
