While studying in Aoteroa (New Zealand), the composer made a number of field recordings of sound environments, interviews and concerts. Returning to Germany he created an electroacoustic, 8-track soundscape based on these sonic memories, in the Studio für elektroakustische Musik (SeaM) of the Musikhochschule Weimar.
Takutaku is a Maori term for a particular form of improvised songs by which the well-known performer Horomona Horo introduced the composer to traditional Maori instruments. In Takutaku, the purerehua (bullroarer), hue puru wai (calabasse) and the putorino (mixture of flute and trumpet) can be heard.
