The stereo mixdown of four different runs of a sound-synthesis program written in a language called “PILE”. Developed by Paul Berg at the Institute for Sonology in Holland, this language is specifically designed for “live” sound synthesis. The program for “Nogood Connection” consists of six subroutines producing five distinct sounds and one producing silence. The internal mathematics of each subroutine is based on a number, for instance in subroutine No 2 all additions, multiplications, etc, are by the number 2, in subroutine No 0 the output is 0, ie, silence. The form of the piece consists of the six subroutines being played in the order 921-4043. “Nogood Connection” is an expression of frustration with the difficulties people have communicating despite planet-wide networks that make communication possible.
