“Yantra” means “cosmography”: age-old Tibetan symbols, which represent the cosmos, were used as a device to generate random structures, tempo and dynamic concepts. “Yantra VI” composed between 1976 and 1979 in Havana, belongs to a series of instrumental works with and without electroacoustic elements written by the composer during 1970-80. “Yantra VI” was awarded the National Electronic Prize by the Ministry of Culture in Cuba, in 1979. The work was premiered at Queen's University Contemporary Music Festival in 1980 with the composer as soloist, and since has been performed on several occasions in Canada and Europe. SB
