Jean-François Denis

pour bande ou en direct : tambours, glockenspiels et guitares électriques

“An Iceman with a Horse with Blinders” for tape or percussion ensemble (12 tuned drums and 3 glockenspiels) and three electric guitars. It has a basic 3/4 meter where the instruments play odd-ratio rhythmic gestures such as 5:3, 7:3, 9:3, 11:3 and 13:3, creating a general sense of time, with non-uniform and uneven motion. This version was produced with a computer-controlled synthesizer to play the percussion parts while the electric guitar parts were played by Larry Simon. Commissioned and premiered by Stefa Zawerucha (choreographer) in a dance performance at the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, New York) on May 2nd, 1985. Produced and recorded at Antenna Audio in San Francisco. JFD
