John A. Celona

Cordes de nuit was assembled in MIDI code using a rack of TX FM modules as sound generators. The work is based on a single voice, as in my “Possible Orchestras (at the 21st Harmonic)” and is structurally modelled after the sound of the distinguished violinist Paul Kling, former concertmaster of the Tokyo and St Louis Orchestras. Global and micro vibrato are controlled using mixes between pythagorean and equal-tempered tunings. Over 200 spectral frequencies and their accompanying sidebands are often sounded simultaneously. The work was produced in my studio during December 1986, and is dedicated to Iannis Xenakis.
