Le compositeur et chef d'orchestre canado-argentin est né à Rosario en Argentine, en 1929. Ayant reçu une bourse de la Fondation Guggenheim, il a vécu à New York de 1965 à 1971 où il a travaillé au Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center. En 1971, il a été nommé professeur de composition à la faculté de musique de l'Université McGill à Montréal. Depuis 1974, il est le directeur du Studio de Musique Électronique de McGill. lanza poursuit une carrière internationale très active comme pianiste et chef d'orchestre spécialisé dans le répertoire d'avant-garde. Il est également le directeur artistique de l'étiquette de disques «shelan» qui produit la série de CD «New Music from the Americas». Les quatre CDs déjà produits offrent une documentation plutôt intéressante de compositions rarement enregistrées de compositeurs canadiens, américains et sud-américains.

Plus récemment, alcides lanza a composé un «Concerto pour Piano [1993-I]» pour piano MIDI et orchestre de chambre. Ce «Concerto pour Piano» a été créé en août 1993 à Rosario et Buenos Aires en Argentine, avec le pianiste Hugo Goldenzweig et le National Symphony Orchestra sous la direction de Peter Bellino.

En septembre 1994, le «Concerto pour Piano» a été sélectionné par la ICMC 94 et interprétée dans sa version MIDI à Aarhus au Danemark, avec le soliste Philip Mead et le Aarhus Symphony Orchestra sous la direction de Soren Hansen.

alcides lanza a récemment terminé « ä visible [1994-I] » pour choeur et bande générée par ordinateur. Sa création a eu lieu en avril 1995 avec les McGill Chamber Singers sous la direction d'Iwan Edwards.

The canadian-argentinian composer and conductor was born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1929. He moved to New York in 1965, having received a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship and lived there from 1965 until 1971, working at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center. In 1971 he was appointed professor of composition at the Faculty of Music, McGill University in Montreal. Since 1974 he has been the director of the Electronic Music Studio at McGill. lanza continues to have a very active international career as a pianist and conductor specializing in the avant garde repertoire. He is also the artistic director of the Recording label 'shelan' which produces the CD series 'New Music from the Americas'. The four compact discs already produced, offer a rather interesting documentation of rarely recorded compositions from Canadian, American and South American composers.

Most recently alcides lanza has composed 'Piano Concerto [1993-I]', for MIDI piano and chamber orchestra. This Piano Concerto was premiered in Rosario and Buenos Aires, Argentina, with pianist Hugo Goldenzweig and conductor Peter Bellino, with the National Symphony Orchestra, in August 1993.

In September 1994 the Piano Concerto was selected by the ICMC 94, and performed in its MIDI version in Aarhus, Denmark, with soloist Philip Mead and the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra conducted by Soren Hansen.

alcides lanza has recently finished in '... visible [1994-I]', for choir with computer generated tape. The premiere performance took place in April 1995 with the McGill Chamber Singers under the direction of Iwan Edwards.
