Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium (TES) /
Symposium Électroacoustique de Toronto (SET)

In August 2007, the Canadian Electroacoustic Community, the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto and New Adventures in Sound Art held the first Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium. Under the initiative of (CEC President) David Ogborn, TES has grown to be a central gathering point for the discussion and presentation of EA in Toronto, Canada.

Starting in 2012, Emilie LeBel will continue the work started by Ogborn, assuming the position of Chair of Symposium Committee.

TES 2012

15–18 August 2012. Toronto ON: various venues. Chair: Emilie LeBel. Keynote Lecturer: Trevor Wishart.

[CALL / APPEL] Submissions are welcome to this year’s edition, which has the theme of “Near and Far — Inner and Outer Sound Places”. Deadline for submissions is 23 April 2012.

TES 2011

10–13 August 2011. Toronto ON: various venues. Chair: David Ogborn. Keynote Lecturer: Jonty Harrison.

The 5th edition of TES featured presentations on “Creation”, “Analysis”, “Algorithms”, “Space”, “Listening to the World” and “Curation”. A special session was held featuring the Participatory Electronic Ensemble Performance (PEEP) and listening sessions for works by Symposium guests and 60x60 Canada 2011 participants were held.

TES 2010

4–7 August 2010. Toronto ON: various venues. Chair: David Ogborn. Keynote Lecturer: Christian Calon.

In 2010 TES featured sessions on such topics as “Instruments and Interaction”, “Cognition, Interpretation and Analysis”, “EA Education”, “Tangible Music” and “Process and Algorithm”. Several listening sessions were also part of the event to present and discuss the works featured in Jeu de temps / Times Play (JTTP) 2010 and in 60x60 Canada 2010.

Many TES 2010 articles were published in eContact! 13.3 — TES 2010 etc. (June 2011).

TES 2009

6–8 August 2009. Toronto ON: various venues. Chair: David Ogborn. Keynote Lecturer: Annette Vande Gorne.

Presentations at TES 2009 were given in sessions on the topics of “History and Communities”, “Sound and Space”, “Sound and Image”, “EA Education and Pedagogy”, “ (Acoustic) Ecology: Water, Air, Sound”, “Interpretation, Criticism and Analysis” and “Live Electronics and Interaction”.

TES 2009 is featured in eContact! 11.4 — Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium 2009 (TES) / Symposium Électroacoustique 2009 de Toronto (December 2009).

TES 2008

7–9 August 2008. Toronto ON: various venues. Chair: David Ogborn. Keynote Lecturers: Robert Normandeau and Ellen Waterman.

Symposium sessions include “The State of The Art”, “The Electroacoustic Voice” and “Systems and Techniques”. Many of the presentations from TES 2008 were published in eContact! 11.2 — Figures canadiennes (2) / Canadian Figures (2) (July 2009).

TES 2007

9–10 August 2007. Toronto ON: various venues. Chair: David Ogborn. Keynote Lecturers: Barry Truax and Trevor Wishart.

Symposium sessions include “The Discipline of Electroacoustics”, “Interfaces and Environments”, “Soundscapes”, “Instruments and Installations” and “Live Electronics”.
