Christian Calon

“What is going to rise comes from ancient times.” — Jean-Luc Godard

“I perceive in its whole a vast convulsion that brings the global movements of beings into play. It goes from the disappearance — la disparition — in death to this voluptuous fury which may be the sense of the disappearance.” — Georges Bataille

The predominant stylistic aspect of this piece is the orchestral quality in the richness and complexity of the voices and in the overall sound colour. The sound materials are all the result of ‘musique concrète’ techniques applied to the computer and digital effects for processing elements of instrumental and environmental origin. Commissioned by the Groupe de musique expérimentale de Marseille (GMEM), “La disparition” received financial assistance from the Canada Council. Dedicated to Ghislaine. CC
