John Kamevaar is a multi-disciplinary artist, living in Toronto. He has used
sampling/quotation in various media.
From 1981 to 1994, he was a member of the CCMC, playing several instruments in this
improvisation collective which toured internationally. Between 1987 and 1991, he was
the artistic director of a tape music group, “Kaiser Nietzsche”. The latter was
primarily a minimalist noise ensemble, which spawned several tape, record and CD
releases on the “Freedom in a Vacuum” label. And from 1987 to 2004, his main
involvement was in the production of several sound-tracks for the experimental films of
Carl Brown. His current preoccupation with sampling film sound-tracks is an extension
of his work on the 2004 film “Triage” by Carl Brown and Michael Snow.
