Richard Zvonar, Robert Black - Massif

Massif pour contrebasse solo et orchestre de contrebasses enregistrées en multipiste, est une collaboration de Richard Zvonar et Robert Black. Réalisée durant une résidence dans le cadre du programme Media Arts au Banff Centre for the Arts en 1993, la pièce fut créée à Banff en 1995, lors de l'International Computer Music Conference (ICMC).

Le compositeur Richard Zvonar et le contrebassiste Robert Black se sont rencontrés au North American Music Festival en 1985 et se consacrent, depuis ce temps, à l'exploration à distance de l'improvisation électroacoustique. Black est connu à travers le monde pour ses performances solo de « basse techno » et pour son travail avec le Bang on a Can All Stars.

Massif, for double bass soloist and a multichannel orchestra of recorded basses, was created collaboratively by Richard Zvonar and Robert Black during a Media Arts recording residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in 1993. It was premiered at Banff in 1995, at the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC).

Composer Richard Zvonar and bassist Robert Black met at the North American Music Festival in 1985 and ever since have engaged in a bi-coastal exploration of electroacoustic improvisation. Black is known internationally for his solo "techno-bass" performances and for his work with the Bang on a Can All Stars.
