Overview

Home | Call for Papers | Paper / Concert Schedule | Sound Travels Events

The Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC), the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto and New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) are pleased to invite you to attend the 2008 Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium.

During the symposium composers and sound artists from Toronto, across Canada and around the world will discuss their work. Symposium sessions include discussions of “The State of The Art”, “The Electroacoustic Voice”, and “Systems and Techniques” among others. The symposium leads directly into the main performance weekend of the annual Sound Travels festival. Thanks to NAISA, Sound Travels artists-in-residence Robert Normandeau and Ellen Waterman will give keynote lectures at the symposium. Normandeau will speak about “Timbre Spatialization” while Waterman will give a talk entitled “Send and Receive: Performing bodies, technology, and the social,” focusing on experimental music performance in Canada.

On August 7, the Canadian Music Centre will host a reception for symposium attendees at 18:00. At 21:00 that same evening the angelusnovus.net group and New Adventures in Sound Art will co-host an open-mic night of electronic, live electronic and improvised music (at Toronto’s Somewhere There space). All are welcome to attend and to make a performance contribution.
