James Caldwell - Mechanism II

James Caldwell est professeur de théorie musicale et de composition à l'Université Western Illinois. Il a obtenu des diplômes des universités Michigan State et Northwestern. Depuis 1988, il est codirecteur du New Music Festival à WIU, qui se tient annuellement, et où l'on peut entendre les nouvelles pièces de nombreux compositeurs.

The title refers to something in which all the pieces fit together and work, maybe something metallic and shiny, with ratios and moving forces—an abstract construction that creates an expressive structure. Time spans are articulated by slowly changing timbres that swirl and move through space, punctuated by metallic plucking sounds.

James Caldwell is Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Western Illinois University. He holds degrees from Michigan State University and Northwestern University. Since 1988 he has been co-director of the annual New Music Festival at WIU, which has presented scores of performances of new pieces by dozens of composers.
