More precisely, it was in 1958–59 that the first university-based Canadian Electronic Music Studio (EMS) was opened at the University of Toronto, followed by McGill University (Montréal, 1964) and University of British Columbia (Vancouver, 1964), and the first studio in a French university at the Université Laval (Québec City, 1969). The Concordia University studios were founded in 1970.
