SYNTHESIS — SUBTRACTIVE |
Definition |
Contrary to additive synthesis, where several sinus tones are combined to construct a more complex tone, with subtractive synthesis, filters are used to subtract — or remove — elements from a complex sound source. The source could be white noise, or, more commonly, square waves or sawtooth waves.
