ELECTRO-POP, ELECTRO-JAZZ, AMBIENT, etc. |

As the terms “electro-pop”, “electro-jazz”, “ambient” etc. may already suggest, this category concerns a hybrid genre in which electroacoustic means are used in the manner of “normal” instruments, producing musical styles with a more traditional character. The use of these terms indicates neither a conflict of meaning between existing genres nor a declaration of the general inadequacy of any genre. In fact, the history of electroacoustics closely parallels the evolution of the electronic equipment it uses. Because of this close relationship, its history traces a line that floats freely back and forth between the commercial world and the composers’ studios. The Moog synthesizer perhaps best exemplifies this stylistic “infidelity” in electroacoustic history. |
