Call for New Works from Young and / or Emerging Sound Artists / Composers
Deadline for submissions: May 1, 2013 (postmarked)
- As of the 2010 edition, multichannel submissions and videomusic works may be submitted to JTTP.
What is JTTP?
A large multi-leveled project of the Communauté électroacoustique canadienne (CEC) Canadian Electroacoustic Community, JTTP is an annual project aimed at promoting and celebrating new electroacoustic works from young and/or emerging sound artists/composers from (or living in) Canada.
JTTP offers the following to the participants:
- promotion on the web through a special focus issue of eContact! http://econtact.ca;
- inclusion in a competition with an international jury, and awards (prize money, CDs, books);
- concert presentations of the top scoring submitted works;
- inclusion in a CD compilation, Cache, for the top-placing works (pending funding);
- radio play and concert launches for the top 5 placing works and for the works included on Cache.
The best way to find out about the JTTP is to look over the past editions that are on the CEC’s website. From the website you can listen to the past years’ submissions, see who participated in the juries, and read the programme and biographical notes. Who is eligible?
Artists/composers from (or living in) Canada.
What is a “young and / or emerging sound artist / composer”?
This would be someone who is likely to be continuing studies in an educational facility or possibly someone for whom there has been little or no national or international recognition of their work and potential in the short period of time that they have been involved in the field.
Do I need to become a CEC member to participate in the project?
No. Participants are not required to be or become CEC members.
What about copyright?
All participants will retain full copyright of their work.
What are the submission criteria?
- The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2013, postmarked. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
- Only one work will be accepted per participant.
- There is no maximum duration for submissions.
A complete and eligible submission package will include the following:
Multichannel Submissions
All multichannel submissions must include:
- all files named according to the guidelines below
- a stereo mixdown of the work
- a detailled Technical Sheet (see below) as a separate file (pdf)
File Naming Convention for Speaker Positioning
Use the format "lastname_keywordfromtitle_POSITION.extension" to name your files (change all special characters to Roman letters: e.g. change éèê to e, etc). Do not include any other information in the file names (e.g. bit depth or sample rate).
To indicate the speaker position for each stem, use capital letters as follows for works up to 8.1 (larger setups should be based on this model and detailed in a separate Tech Sheet):
L = left
C = centre
R = right
F = front
S = side
B = behind

Technical Sheet for Multichannel Submissions
Indicate the name of your work as the title of the Tech Sheet. Do not indicate your name or any other information that could identify you, as this sheet will be provided to the jury.
Indicating the following information for your submission. Feel free to add any other relevant information.
- sampling rate and bit depth of the multichannel and stereo formats
- speaker positioning diagramme (use the convention indicated above)
- proposal for channel assignment for a 5.1 setup
- proposal for panning positioning of channels to listen to the work in stereo (e.g. L LC C RC R)
Videomusic submissions
All videomusic submissions should be formatted as follows:
- File type: mp4 or mov
- Codec: H.264
Please, send two (2) copies of your video. A normal one and one without credits on the video (which will be provided to the jury).
